There is some very good work going on with the first portfolio pages. We're nearing completion of the first topic: computer hardware.

Plesae be sure to check your spelling. It is one of the components of your grade. Use a Word doc to do a spell check, then copy and paste your text into Wix.

Try this website http://www.techterms.com (It's on my Delicious account tagged as computers or reference.). It' a great way to get simply written tech definitions. They're written in actual English, and not in tech talk.

You must understand and be able to talk about the text you put on your topic pages. If you copy and paste something from a webpage, I'll probably recognize that you did so. Maks sure you rephrase information in your own words.

I'm giving you until the last possible second to turn in corrected and make-up MT4 lessons. Anything done by 3:00 PM Monday will be counted. I have to have my grades in on Tuesday, so that means I'll be inputting your scores late into the night after we get the kids to bed. You're welcome. ;)

Boys b-ballers: I'm being told that your coach will not accept any D's. Make sure you check your scores.

If you haven't yet taken advantage of the vast amount of extra keyboarding time and opportunities, you have very little time left to raise you 1st quarter grade. I'll still sign passes tomorrow and Monday.

If you happen to have a study hall or can be excused from something else, I'm doing an extra help session in 102B tomorrow during mods 15-16. If you have questions or want help with Wix or the project, let me know, and I'll sign you a pass.

Remember, the computer hardware page ONLY is due for me to grade on Monday. If you have your page done tomorrow, I'll go over it with you (with the rubric) and you can make any necessary changes without penalty to your grade. Then I'll grade it on Monday.

Class should be interesting tomorrow with all the costumes.
Look to the pizza for guidance...

This is our first topic on the technology portfolio project. I orginally told you it was due this Friday. Due to the lockdown drill on Tuesday and the science assembly on Thursday, we've lost some time, so I'm extending computer hardware until Monday, November 1.

You must come to class that day ready to present your page to me. I'll go through the groups in random order.

So, we'e finally getting started on the portfolio. Use the files on the homework links page to help you. Please use this post to ask questions or comment about the project. I'll also put up a wall discussion about the project, if you'd like to post comments or questions, there.

As we talked about yesterday, there will be two separate rubrics for the project. One for the whole website...I'll have that one on the homeworks links page soon, and one for each topic/page we do.

I'll use the topic/page rubric to grade each topic you complete. If you need more than one webpage for a topic, that's fine. It will still only get one grade, which is a possible ten points per topic.

Everybody is starting with the same topic, computer hardware. Use the PowerPoint presentation on the homeworks link page to guide you. It shows you the specific questions you need to answer about each topic, and it will give you suggestions on resources.

Your job is to explain the topic in a way that a person knowing nothing about it can understand. You must use at least two sources per topic. One of those sources can be a video. You must provide links to the sources you use.

Make sure you look at it.

Many folks have dug themselves in a hole with the whole build skill issue. You have until the end of the semester to do bonus to help with the overall grade, and until the end of the quarter to finish or fix lessons.

Great comments and discussion on the first ticker post. Here's one I really liked: "The ticker is like the almanac of the internet." That's a really interesting comparison.

Yes, we can put these types of things on the sites we build. This and the revolvermap and other things like them are called widgets. Notice that there is a widget button in the Wix editing screen.

Aren't those YouTube numbers amazing? I keep hearing that at some point soon, the total amount of video available on YouTube will be greater than the total amount of video that has ever been transmitted in the history of television. I'll have to look that one up.

There are a number of people who have not yet turned in the letters you were writing to home, and you've even had a couple extra days to do so, since I've forgotten to ask for them. Tomorrow is the due date.

Another reminder that it is your responsibility to keep me informed of your progress on make-up build skill lessons. If you finish one, and the score still shows a zero, you must show me right then. If the scores are showing up, you can certainly do a few at at time and let me know without telling me each time you finish one.

Great work to those of you who have made up work and are doing bonus lessons to get your scores back up.

Today we finished up sharing the last few remaining Delicious user names.

The rest of our class time was spent looking at some of the online tools you can use to collaborate (There's that word again!), with your group members to work on the tech portfolio project.

Make sure you're using my Delicious account to find resources for the project.

So, we didn't exactly get into the project today. We still had to share Delicious usernames in all our classes, so we took care of that today. Congrats to mod 9-10 for coming up with the winning/fast strategy of having everyone walk around to each computer and typing in your own username. That was a big time-saver.

Mods 3-4 and 15-16 got as far as getting into their project groups. 1-2 needs to finish Delicious username sharing, and 9-10 had just finished it. We'll start there tomorrow.

The word of the day is "collaborate". In a couple of the classes today, we talked about ways we might collaborate within our groups without talking face-to-face.
